Notes
A mosque lamp intended for hanging. It has an inflated body and a long neck that expands toward the top. Includes six loops for hanging by chains. It was dyed green from the inside, while its outer surface was decorated with combinations of dark blue, white, red, and gilding, forming engraved inscription bands and floral and geometric designs. Since the decorations are enamelled, their prominent appearance gives the lamp body a sense of depth. The body of the lamp is spread with a floral decoration of medallions with red and white pendants, while the neck is surrounded by a border of arabesques and Qur’anic verses from Surat An-Nur (No. 24). There are also circular medallions in the middle of the inscription bands, inside which two white colored polo sticks appear on a dark blue ground. This is a distinctive formation in the Mamluk era.
