Notes Silver decoration adorns this bronze key attached to a moon-shaped ring. The unique mission of this key is to protect the Holy House of God. The inscriptions bear religious and political messages, including Quranic verses and the name of Sultan Abdul Aziz, who was authorized to keep this key in the 19th century AD. The Prophet Abraham and his son Ismail raised the foundations from the house, and from here began the legislation to protect and glorify the Holy House of God. Today, the Bani Shaybah keeps the key in a bag made of silk embroidered with gold and silver threads, as the Prophet Muhammad (may God bless him and grant him peace) covenanted it. Bani Shaybah was given the honor of carrying the key of the Kaaba when Mecca was conquered. The Kaaba is opened twice a year with this key in order to clean it using rose water and Zamzam water.
