Notes
A small colored underglaze dish, in the middle of which is a pattern with a pointed top, colored blue, white and red, and outlined in black. Its defined edges contrast with the ground, which is composed of densely coiled spirals. Four florets with dark red centers are arranged around the edge of the central circular area, and around the edges of this outer circle are concentrated a group of patterns, trefoil and emerald in colour. The edge of the dish is decorated with two rows of similar spiral shapes, interspersed with abstract waveforms overlaid with green, and between them are small red patterns that provide a nice and clear contrast with the blue, black and white background. Although it is not known for whom this small, elaborate dish was made because Iznik potters produced for the imperial court, the public and even foreigners alike, the quality of the decoration indicates that the Ottoman ceramics industry was still in its heyday.
