Notes In this portrait of the royal family, Emperor Shah Jahan (r. 1628-58) is shown sitting in a haloed pose on a gold-based throne under a high white sofa, accepting a gift of jewelry from his stepfather Asaf Khan. To his right are his three youngest sons - Dara Shehu (1615-59), Shah Shija (1616-59), and the ill-fated Aurangizb (r. 1628-58). 1618-1707), whose death marked the end of the great empire, and all the people wear a turban decorated with jewels, pearl necklaces, various types of daggers (khelanum), (katar) and (card), richly embroidered sashes, and inlaid swords, and there is a bright carpet beneath them.
