Notes This polished ewer made of sheet metal is a typical example of the Khorasan school of metalwork. The metal was hammered to form the body of the jug before it was decorated with engravings and partially inlaid with silver. The decorative system combines Arabic blessing inscriptions, pictorial cartouches that display mythical creatures, some cosmic and solar symbols in Persian folk culture, and birds.
