Notes The shape of the bowl clearly indicates its function. The body and lid are entirely engraved with scenes of demons and also mythical creatures mentioned in Ferdowsi's Shahnameh (Book of Kings), but most likely related to the Persian spoken tradition. The handle is of the same shape, engraved with figures and decorated at both ends with highly distinctive dragon heads. The bowl was purchased from a well-known collector called Constantin Isarcu in the second half of the 19th century which saw the emergence of important private collections in Romania.
