Notes
This manuscript, made for Nasr al-Din Shah Qajar (r. 1264-1313), is the Garden of Wonders manuscript. It consists of one hundred and nineteen lined pages, each with ten lines, sprinkled with gold (nasta'liq), by the hand of Shukrullah Nimah-Nijar. Nasr al-Din Shah Qajar's name is mentioned on the page preceding the last page of the manuscript, and his personal portrait is drawn in the middle medallions on the front and back covers. The binding reflects the involvement of the inheritance. Ancient and modern during the Qajar era, it is characterized by the usual composition of vegetal figures wrapped in gold on a dark background, which is closely associated with European-style portraits of the Shah.
