Notes The Moorish decoration covers the entire visible side of the dish in an evenly spaced arrangement. A memorial shield is seen in the centre. The dish signed by Niccolò Greco belongs to the system of various copper vessels with associated decoration produced by metal craftsmen in the Mediterranean region for the Eastern and European market. Another dish signed by him is in the collection of the British Museum in London (MLA 1855.12-1.3) and since we know very little about the artist’s life – he was working in Rome in 1542 – an exact identification of where the dish was made is not possible.
