Notes The Kasbah (castle) is located at an altitude of 118 meters above sea level, at the corner of the triangle formed by the walls that protect the city of Algiers. The base of this triangle is formed by the sea front, and this defensive group made the “guarded city of Algiers” a fortress, known today as the “Kasbah”. The construction of the fortress may date back to between 959 and 980 AH / 1552 and 1572 AD. Construction work on the castle door took place in 1000 AH / 1591 AD, to replace the old doors that proved easy to demolish. After that, Al-Dai Hussein ordered some work in order for him to reside in the citadel and make it the center of his authority in the year 1232 AH / 1817 AD. In addition to the old barracks, two mosques, two palaces, a gunpowder warehouse, a wall, bathrooms, kitchens, and various accessories remained in the castle. The collection, which is under restoration, constitutes a huge gathering thanks to the vast area it occupies. The chronological order of the history of these buildings remains complex due to the multiplicity and diversity of settlement on the site, and the changes they caused to its components.
