Notes Both candlesticks have a rounded base, a bell-like body, a ring-ringed cylindrical neck, and a wide candle holder. At the top and base of the body there is a collar of heart-shaped drawings with palmettes in the middle, and there is a repeating border at the base and neck. On the neck ring you can see paper shapes in relief engraving. While the neck itself is decorated with wavy diamonds in which the style of Chinese drawings (stick of the cross) appears on the front and sides. The candle holder is also decorated with an ornamental band with engravings. The main part of the body is decorated with a wide band of carvings on a background of crucifixes and spiraling plants. The inscription is a poem written in Persian that glorifies the light of the menorah. As for the inscription in Arabic, we read: 'May Sultan Bayezid protect himself from calamities'. The inscription, written in Ottoman Turkish, informs us that the two candlesticks were made for the Sultan Bayezid II Mosque in Edirne. The two candlesticks are inlaid with gold. Their shapes remind us of Mamluk candlesticks.
