Notes
Fabrics such as these were placed over the back sections of richly decorated houses, and like many carpets these were originally owned by the Austrian Imperial House. The center fabric of the seating area forms a flower surrounded by an oval band of braiding, and around this center there is a pattern of flower patterns and additional scrolls. One of the floral scrolls runs across the entire width of the seating area fabric and is surrounded by another band of red-ground braiding. The decorative structure is based on bands of braiding and appears to mimic the shape of the seating area.
