Notes A circular piece bearing relief inscription in a simple Kufi-Aghlabid style. The basic writing line is circular, extending along the perimeter of the piece and horizontal in its centre. The body of the inscription is surrounded by a circular incised frame. The text: The obverse: “In the name of God. This dinar was minted in the year one hundred and ninety-two. Muhammad is the Messenger of God. He conquered.” The back: “He is the One who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to make it prevail over all religions. There is no god but God alone, with no partner.” This Aghlabid dinar, which bears the characteristics of the Abbasid coin, indicates the independence of the new ruling dynasty, by mentioning The name of the ruling prince, and engraved with the emblem of the emirate, which is the word “He conquered”, which will continue to be used on Aghlabid coins until the arrival of the Fatimids. The Aghlabids secured a good money chain that imposed its presence in Mediterranean trade exchanges. The coins were mainly engraved using the stitch method, while relief engraving appears to have been used in minting coins in which the decorative elements required great precision in execution.
