Notes
This door originally dates back to the Al-Shabak Fort, known as the Great House, which is located in the city of Ibra. It was built by Sheikh Ahmed bin Rabia Al-Ismaili Al-Himyari, and he is one of the figures of the state of the Ya'arib Imams, during the reign of Imam Sultan bin Saif II Al-Ya'arabi. The main door of the fort includes inscriptions, and floral and animal decorations, among which is prominently carved on the two panels the royal emblem of the United Kingdom, which consists of a lion and a legendary horse. With a horn, and it is written on it: For the Grand Master, made in Sarat, by Ahmad al-Ismaili in Muharram in the year 1126 AH. Al-Himyari, the Dearest of Islam. The door stands as a witness to the close political and commercial ties between Oman and the Mughal Sultanate of India, and the East India Company, during the era of the state of the Ya’aribah Imams.
