Notes
A rectangular monument made of white marble, with an inscribed tombstone within a frame consisting of a simple braid. The debate demonstrates good taste and deep knowledge at the level of both text and inscription. The Christian Latin in which the text was written is carefully engraved, and the letters and abbreviations are the same as those that were in particular use in the 4th century AH / 10th century AD. On the other hand, the expression hic requiescunt membra remains unusual in Spanish regions, but it contains a similarity to an inscription from Cordoba dating back to 982 AD, which was in the possession of the Archaeological Museum in Seville. The tombstone of the Bishop of Algarve (West) takes its inspiration from him, not only with regard to the form of the introduction used, but also with regard to the styles of the letters and the braid of the frame, all of which leads us to believe that it was made by the same master. Also belonging to this family is the tombstone of the nun Speciosa and her mother, Tranquilla, which dates back to about 966 AD and is located in the Church of Saint Andre in Cordoba.
