Notes
This door consists of a heavy rectangular door, inside which a small door opens. The door was originally attached to an external door frame fixed to the wall. It was decorated with a large hinge of cast iron in the form of a triple twisted bayonet used as fasteners, and with two knockers, one above the small door and the other above the rudder, to enable people riding mules to knock on the door without getting off their animals. Each hammer consists of a huge iron ring of square cross-section, decorated with small engraved decorative elements, and mounted on a hemispherical stand with a serrated edge. The nails, with their rounded heads lined up with the frame and crossbars, form the main decoration of the door. The latter represents the prototype of doors for modest or luxurious residences during the Marinid and Nasrid periods. This style will remain in use in almost all cities in Morocco until the middle of the twentieth century, and the triple-bayonet-shaped hinges used in Tetouan will remain the distinctive sign of the homes of families of Andalusian origin.
