Notes
Thick bands of thuluth design became the main decorative element in Mamluk metalwork in the 8th/14th century, as shown by this brass candlestick, previously inlaid with silver and gold, which is cut by a raised band of inscriptions, divided into two sections by a pair of large medallions bearing smaller spaced inscriptions. The inscribed texts give the name and title of the Mamluk Sultan Salih Imad ad-Din Ismail (r. 743-746 AH). /1342-45 AD)
