Notes This small-sized rug is dominated by a cross shape that usually forms part of a larger pattern made of crosses and rhombuses. However, thanks to these decorations this carpet can be recognized as being of a type called the “Lotto” carpet, named after the Renaissance artist Lorenzo Lotto (885-963 AH / 1480-1557 AD), who immortalized such a carpet on the altarpiece depicting the Adoration of Saint Anthony. The border is quite atypical, indicating a possible date for this particular carpet in the late 17th century.
