Notes The surviving verso of a two-page frontispiece (page 1a) is laid out as two overlapping circles in a braided border, each containing part of the verse, number of letters, and punctuation/diacritical marks. This is derived from the longitudinal gilding of the first Qur’ans and indicates that the transition from the vertical form did not directly impose a new definitive law on placement. The manuscript ends with a double gilded final section in which the golden color predominates. The model, also here, is based on overlapping circles. The text is copied in Naskh script and has twenty lines per page. The chapters of the surahs are written in golden Kufi with golden palmettes in the margins, which sometimes contain the name of the place where the surah was revealed. Individual verses are not marked, but groups of five verses are indicated in an oval shape, and groups of ten verses are indicated in a circle.
