Notes
This large tile panel is mounted on the east wall of a dining room at Shangri-La. To produce a painting like this, the potter cuts small shapes from glazed and fired tiles and then fits the small pieces together to produce a mosaic pattern. Each shape must be precisely cut to perfectly match the surrounding glazed shapes in contrasting colors. The technique is often used in Iran and Central Asia to decorate buildings and other architectural structures such as gates.
