Notes The jar is spherical in shape, its neck is long and thin, and there are parallel lines on its surface, converging at the top. They were cut during its manufacture, so it looked as if it had been engraved on it. Its handles rest on its neck in the form of two buttons. Its original color is black covered with white paint, and on the surface of the bottom of the jar there is a decoration resembling Kufic script, ending at the bottom. Between the neck and the abdomen is a well-known decoration in Islamic art, representing simplified drawings of palm trees, in the form of braids made up of images of hearts. The archaeologist Antonio Salinas found the jar with other models inside an arch that leads to a room in the monastery of the Church of Martorana (the Tormentor), built around the year 588 / AD 1193. A crack appears on the lower part of the jar caused by poor repair during its manufacture, and when people saw it as unsuitable for storing liquids, they left it with the remains. Damaged to fill the aforementioned building arch.
