Notes
An inkwell with an almost circular body, a convex bottom, and raised edges with four loops of circular cross-section. The outer surface is decorated with green and manganese underpainting. Thanks to radiography techniques, we know that a stream emerges from the inlet hole and sinks 2.29 cm into the ink container. The stream was also coated with lacquer; It was made individually and was later paired with the neck. We know of various similar objects: one is in the Alcazaba Museum in Almería; the other in Corbières (France); The third glass is kept in the Iran Bastan Museum in Tehran. Within the collection of the Peralada Fort (Girón, Spain), an inkwell of Iranian origin appears; There is a fifth copy in the Louvre Museum dating back to the 3rd / 9th century, and it is interesting because of its source, as it was found in excavations carried out in Suez. This last piece, contemporary with others found in Samarkand, Nishapur, and Siraf, suggests that the original place of these inkwells may have been the Middle East, from where they undoubtedly spread westward.
