Notes
This tripod incense burner is cast from bronze. The body, lid and handles are all individually crafted. The body is cylindrical in shape, connected to a disc base with three legs. There is a prominent edge in the upper part, on which three prominent decorations appear, pierced with a small hole. There is another protrusion that appears at the joint that holds the dome-shaped cover, the lower part of which is decorated with arches. The lid has three holes at the top, and a handle or handle is surmounted by it. This tube-shaped handle ends in the shape of a lion's head and is attached to the body with three screws. The handle is placed between the legs of the incense burner, which makes it unbalanced and does not allow it to be placed upright. The body and dome are delicately decorated with floral motifs on a background of fine dots. The main uses of the incense burner are to enjoy the beautiful scent, and it is used for spiritual purposes and also to expel evil spirits. The Byzantines used incense burners in churches and Muslims used them in homes and palaces.
