Notes Squares, rectangles, rhombuses, and their triangle components are widespread as elements of Omani design, and can easily be implemented as simple shapes of straight, overlapping lines. Therefore, these shapes are most prominent on solid materials, such as stones, bones, metals, and wood. These shapes in wood are usually multi-faceted, a technique that makes the engraving eye-catching. Through the interplay of light and shadow, angular patterns also appear in the textile and basket-making industries. The methods of making them depend on the use of straight elements, and the reliance on these designs is evident in the various shapes of necklaces for memorizing the Qur’an (brooches), and these designs also appear in square rings and diamond-shaped decorative pins.
