Notes
This albarello vial is an apothecary vessel decorated with vertical blue bands. The colorless transparent glass added after painting has turned into spots and there is a layer of mother-of-pearl. Decorating with simple ribbons was very common during that period in Iran. Although the bottle has Latin origins, its shape originates from the Middle East and was introduced to Europe sometime around the fifteenth century. Bottles are used as functional and decorative pieces in traditional pharmacies. The jars were generally sealed with a piece of parchment or leather using a string/rope.
