| Notes |
The patterned fabric from Yemen is part of a dyed Iqat cotton shawl dating back to the 10th century. It is a specific product of the Yemeni textile industry with a white embroidered pattern that quotes text from Al-Fatihah, which is the first surah of the Qur’an. The Qur’anic inscription shows uniform symmetry and elegance achieved by the distinctive triangular ends of the letter and by a number of different slender, arc-like shapes that make it difficult to read. |
