Notes
Sarajan is made of soapstone, scientifically known as chlorite. Steatite was used in the manufacture of some utensils and tools, such as lamps, cooking utensils, and incense burners, due to its ability to absorb and retain heat. Piece A is a decorated star-shaped lamp, with ten triangular nozzles, and decorated with engraved lines and dots. In the center of this lamp there is a circular hole into which oil was poured directly into the tank. The tank is connected to ten openings at its bottom, which in turn are directly connected to the ten nozzles intended for lighting. Piece B is a triangular lamp with six nozzles protruding from the long sides and at the corners, three short nozzles located on the edges. This lamp is decorated with simple incised lines, and in its center there is a circular hole into which oil was poured to reach the tank directly. The holes in the tank allow the oil to reach the lower channels, which in turn fill the nozzles with oil.
