Notes A unique gold coin (of the denomination of 1000 dowry) minted for the purpose of gifting, and attributed to the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan (reigned between 1037-1069 AH / 1627-1658 AD). Minted in Lahore, India, in the year of the twelfth session 1048 AH / 1638 - 1639 AD. These coins were minted in order to present them to senior officers and prominent figures, as an expression of appreciation to them, and also to show off the greatness and generosity of the ruler. The obverse of the coin was engraved with inscriptions in Arabic and Persian in Nasta`liq script: “There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God.” Struck in 1048 AD, Fidar Sultanate, Lahore. On the back of the coin was written: “Shihab al-Din Muhammad, the second of the two happy planets, Shah Jahan Bad Shah Ghazi, the twelfth year of his reign.”
