Notes
This is the oldest known imperial Ottoman tyghan, believed to have been made by order of Sultan Bayezid II (r. 885-917 AH/1481-1512 AD). It is a Turkish weapon used by the elite forces of the Ottoman army (the Janissaries) from the middle of the ninth to the thirteenth century AH / from the middle of the fifteenth to the nineteenth century AD. An inscription in Thuluth script, plated with gold, on both sides of the blade and along its back, bearing the names of the Sultan, its owner and maker, in addition to engraved supplications enumerating the attributes of the Sultan.
