Notes Muslims consider the Qur’an to be the third and final divine revelation to humanity: it complements but does not replace the books previously revealed by God to Jews and Christians. The prophets of the Old and New Testaments are therefore also prophets of Islam. This manuscript is about the history of the world, which begins with Adam and ends with the Ottoman sultans in the sixteenth century. It includes a description of multiple prophets common to all three religions (such as Abraham and Ishmael) and also in particular Muslim prophets (such as Alexander and Al-Khidr). The manuscript ends with a description of Sultan Murad III (r. 1574-95), during whose reign this manuscript was produced. Every prophet or sultan is identified by an inscription.
