Notes
The painting depicts the Grand Mosque in Mecca within the Kaaba complex, which is shown in the middle between other sites such as the pulpit, the Zamzam Well, and constructions of various religious schools, all of which are known by their names. Such topographical works with a wish/votive or commemorative function are typical of 17th-century Iznik workshops and follow illustrations in manuscripts from the 6th century onwards.
