Notes Although this bottle is part of a large collection of pieces, it is special in its design. Similar flask types are commonly found but this particular example does not have any particularly compatible parts. It is characterized by a high, slightly sloping foot, a cubic body with a vertical ridge on each side, a convex shoulder, a narrow neck, and finally a high cylindrical mouth with rounded cusps of high relief. This special decoration was similar to the facades of early Islamic buildings, such as those in Samarra, according to the analysis of Monika Dahncke. More commonly, cubic-shaped bottles feature teardrop-like buttons on both ends. As in many other bottles from the Bumiller collection, this bottle does not have a base at all and therefore gives rise to thought that the method of filling it is as suggested by Eva Baer. The bottles were filled at the bottom and capped with a stopper. It is most likely that they were used as containers for perfume and scented water.
