| Notes | This candlestick was gifted by the Mamluk Sultan Qatibay to a shrine in the city in the year 1482. The antique inscriptions, whose letters end in a curved shape to form tongs, surround small palmettes that occupy almost the entire height of the base. Sultan Qatibay restored the Prophet’s Mosque in 1480 and presented it with at least five candlesticks, of which two others remained and are now in Cairo. |
