Date The beginning of the eighteenth century
Notes The graphic design on each of these sections consists of an eight-time repetition of a surah from the Qur’an, namely Surah Al-Fath (88), verse 1: “Indeed, We have given you a clear victory.” The letters have been drawn to form the appearance of a decorative element in which the words “Indeed, We have opened” and “For you, an opening” – which are similar in form – have been arranged at both ends to create a mirror image around the word “clear” in the centre. A similar cloth in the Historical Museum of Thysos, Lyon, France bears the date 1123 AH (1711-12 AD).
