Notes In the year 1020 AH / 1611 AD, the decision was made to protect the shrine of Sidi Abd al-Rahman al-Thaalabi, the righteous saint of Algeria, who died in 877 AH / 1470 AD. Later, exactly in the year 1108 AH / 1696 AD, Hajj Ahmad al-Atshi transformed the square-shaped shrine into a prayer hall by adding a mihrab. Four pairs of half-columns integrated into the wall allow the transition from a square shape to an octagonal shape to support the dome covering the hall. In addition to the two marble columns next to it, the mihrab is decorated with squares of tile. The minaret is low in height, rises above a square base, and consists of three levels of blind decorative arches, each of which is crowned with a band of tile. The dome contains several graves, including the tomb of Sidi Abd al-Rahman and the tomb of Sidi Boudjemaa. Shops, service buildings, and housing were built thanks to the revenues from the corner. Within the wall, there is a small cemetery containing the graves of well-known people or notables, such as Sidi Boudouma and Sidi Waddah, Omar’s parents.
