Notes Anis al-Hajjaj's book was written during the author's Hajtila trip in 1676-77, and it gives the pilgrims an idea of every aspect of the trip. The author's own pilgrimage was made possible through financial assistance from Zeb al-Nisa, the daughter of the Mongol Emperor Aurangabad, who wrote an explanation of the Qur'an for her. The manuscript differs from other guidebooks to holy places in that its illustrations include vivid scenes of pilgrims performing numerous rituals and conclusive pictures of their life in the camps. There are pictures showing Surat, Mecca, Jeddah, and the ships of pilgrims crossing the Sea of Oman, and Muzdalifah, where the pilgrims are in the state of ihram, collecting pebbles, and in Mina, where the pilgrims throw stones at the Jamarat, shaving and making sacrifices. They also show the holy places near Mecca, the layout of the Grand Mosque, and the camps of pilgrims from South Africa, Egypt, Syria, the Arabian Desert, India, and Iran. There are also pictures of Sharif Barakat, who is the ruler of the Two Holy Mosques. He rides to meet the envoy of Sultan Mehmed IV and Abdibasha, the Egyptian prince of Hajj, on his way from Mecca to Medina.
