Notes
This Moroccan leather case will enclose a copy of the Qur'an or other religious texts to protect the manuscripts from dust, moisture and dirt. Silver thread embroiders the Islamic star known as the party's winner with two overlapping squares, flower vines, and Arabic calligraphy in the old Moroccan style. The calligraphy reads “Prophet Muhammad - may God bless him and grant him peace.” The silver thread and calligraphy turn the leather bag into a talisman piece, casting protection on the Quran and the owner. In North Africa, Qur'an cases often embodied a dual protective function: book cover and talisman. Furthermore, the case embodies the craftsmanship of Maghreb artisans, including the traditional skills of leatherwork and metal embroidery.
