Notes Pillows like these were part of the distinctive furnishings of palaces and tents. In the center of the rectangular pillow cover appears a medallion surrounded by saz leaves and carnation flowers placed in a rectangle, and around it are also tulips, along with saz leaves and carnations. The two shorter ends of the pillow cover are provided with a zigzag border, showing a basket of tulips in its inner pattern. In order to meet the huge demand for bed covers, hanging curtains and pillow covers for room furnishings in luxury Ottoman homes, such pillow covers were woven on the basis of a production line.
