Notes Alphabet books like this are known as part alifba' in Turkish and were usually produced for children learning to read and write. In this case, such a wonderful example must have been of a boy or girl from the royal family or from the upper class. The twenty-eight letters of the Arabic alphabet are written at the beginning of the book, where each letter is written in a space resembling a rhombus. Above the right page there is a space inscribed with the words: “In the name of God, may God make my work easy, free from difficulties and auspicious with success.” The following pages show how each letter is connected to the other letters, and then on the last pages there are supplications in Arabic.
