Notes
This piece is a Nisaburi-style bowl on a ring base. It has a lid with an outer lining decorated with a band of dark triangles, and underneath there are evenly spaced horizontal lines in the same glaze down towards the base. Also on the outside there are irregular areas of bright red and yellow glaze. Inside the frame there are four dark lines surrounding three yellow, red and white glazing bands. The rest of the interior has a light yellow background. The male figure in the center is surrounded by a thick frame of dark glaze and has a head, nose, mustache and mouth and wears an ankle-length banded garment with a black outer lining. Above the waist, the clothes are red with yellow designs in the shape of an X. The apron is decorated with typical checks with black borders and a blue horizontal band across the bottom and he also wears dark pointed shoes. The figure is surrounded by many stylized designs, geometric and floral shapes, inscriptions in calligraphy, and four long-necked birds with crests, perhaps peacocks. Irregularly around the middle field and the edges of the bowl are intentionally drawn spots of turquoise glaze. The outside and bottom of the bowl are covered with a yellow-orange glaze. It is not decorated. The bowl rests on a low base. The bottom is slightly hollow and covered with the same yellow-orange glaze. There are many small breakage points, especially around the frame and on the entire outer part of the bowl. There are fine cracks throughout the piece, and there are many repaired fractures and small fractures around the foot/base.
