Notes
Chinese porcelain has its own distinction and influence. Two-color porcelain (white and blue), which gained popularity and admiration in the Islamic world, may have begun to be exported to the countries of the eastern Mediterranean in the 2nd / 8th century. This type of porcelain, bright white and heavily decorated with blue, flourished in China during the Yuan, Ming and Zheng dynasties. The Chinese began exporting it by land and sea in the 8th / 14th century. Arab potters tried to imitate this type of ceramics due to people’s demand for it and its not always available in the markets, and this piece is an example of this type. The imitation Chinese porcelain was of high material value. The piece is a plate whose bottom is decorated with a bouquet of flowers tied with a ribbon with graceful twists, and this bouquet is surrounded by a band of modified floral decorations. On the edge of the plate, we find geometric decorations. All of these decorations are executed in blue in varying degrees on a white background.
