Notes The base of this spherical ring is carved from white jasper. The gemstones have been precisely cut to line up with the veins of the leaves and petals. This ring belonged to Emperor Qianlong (r. 1148–1210 AH/1736–1795 AD) of the Qing dynasty, and his seal is engraved on its base. The popularity of smoking has led to the spread of this tool among the elite.
