Notes
This straight-handled, curved-edged Kattara sword from the Al-Busaid Dynasty shows the use of the arabesque, a decorative element consisting of a long stem, from which separate palm-shaped leaves branch out. On the other hand, and more broadly, the word “arabesque” is used to refer to a complete, repeating set of identical, similar-in-pattern designs inspired by flowers, plant leaves, and animals; To add an aesthetic dimension consistent with the ideal organization of nature’s reality. “Arabesque” patterns are widely used in Omani craftsmanship; Where you can see in wood, plaster, and metal industries; It may be used to cover surfaces completely, or in specific shapes within a precise geometric framework.
