Notes Incense burners were in great demand throughout the Islamic world. Incense burners vary in shape, decorative designs, and also quality. Some of them are designed in the form of a cylindrical cover, spherical units, or complex architectural shapes. Incense burners were given by kings as gifts to shrines and temples and to be placed in palaces and residences. This three-legged incense burner studded with precious stones coming from China is decorated with Arabic inscriptions inside three spaces on either side of its spherical body.
