Notes
This cast candlestick is one of a large collection of over 50 known similar pieces that display a wide range of decoration with figures and a mixture of styles characteristic of Seljuk-Rum art. The decoration on this type of specimen consists of inscriptions, arabesques, and medallions surrounding various fighting birds, figures playing the harp, drinking and having fun noisily, and also an archaeological metaphor representing the personification of a month.
