Notes In Iran, during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, star-shaped lustre-painted tiles were made in large numbers for the walls of religious and secular buildings, and pictures with or without figures were painted in the center, while verses from the Qur'an or selections from Persian poetry were written around the edges. The halo surrounding the head of the sitting person indicates that he is an important figure such as the ruling class.
