Notes This four-stringed instrument has a polished wooden body inlaid with tortoiseshell and richly inlaid with floral spirals and arabesques (Arabic motifs) inlaid with mother-of-pearl. In Ottoman culture, the violin, which is curved vertically and is mounted on the player's knee, was one of the main classical instruments used.
