Notes The miniature cut from the manuscript shows a period in Ferdowsi's Shahnameh in which Alexander kills a dragon by trickery by making it swallow a bull containing oil. The scene is depicted in a landscape with a cliff in the background and under the bewildered eyes of the three figures dressed in seventeenth-century costumes located above the fortress gate.
