Notes In China, it is customary for the Qur’an to be bound in thirty parts. Each part of this special Qur’an is bound in dark lacquered leather and decorated with gold with blooming lotus flowers and dense rolled paper. Chinese decorative drawings frame the ring formed by planning, and on it is written a verse from the Qur’an: “None touch it except the purified” (56:79). It is written in Chinese script in black ink with multi-colored verse marks and in gold. Each sheet shows five lines of writing. The frame is decorated using Islamic and Chinese methods. The Arabic text is included in the design in the form of crescents and flags, inspired by Chinese culture and heritage. Border decorations extend to the margins of the decoration frame in a manner similar to Chinese Qur’ans produced during the Qing era. The high quality of this collection means that it was probably owned by a noble or wealthy person.
