Notes After the outbreak of World War I and the fear that Egypt would not be able to send the usual kiswah to the Kaaba, it was made in Istanbul and sent to Mecca in the year 1334 AH / 1916 AD, although it was not used until 1341 AH / 1922 AD. The curtain and the eight sides that make up the belt are shown here and were displayed in the workshop where they were embroidered. Both parts bear the name of the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed V.
