Notes A set of bronze weights used to weigh different currency units such as the dinar (gold) and the dirham (silver). These weights take different shapes such as square, disc, faceted polygon, and cone. They are usually perforated in the middle so that they can be kept together as a single unit and carried easily. The archaeological layers in which these weights were found in Aqaba give us an idea of the differences between these weights: the heavy weights were more decorated than the light weights, whose decoration was simpler. It is possible that heavier weights were used to weigh goods heavier than coins.
